Kenai Fishing Report: June 2024

The summer here in the Kenai Peninsula was off to a cool start, with conditions requiring a warmer layer. Those colder days did not stop some fantastic fishing opportunities.  Thanks to the heater on our Willie’s Drift Boat and its onboard pizza oven, those chilly days were still productive.  A few warm slices of pizza kept our anglers fueled!  As June continues, the conditions will be pretty fair, warming up and with limited days of rain so you can maximize opportunities at the king salmon that have begun to appear.  We’ve had success with them over the past few weeks.  The peak season is now for these mammoths! We can take advantage of these conditions to get a great shot at Hatchery and Wild Kings.  The hatchery kings are allowed to be kept and make fantastic meals, while the wild kings are caught and released so we can maintain a healthy population for many years. Throughout the area, conditions only getting better as we head into a true Alaskan Summer with so many opportunities. The trout opener was just a few days ago, and we’re starting to go after many trout found in the streams and rivers.  This is only the tip of the iceberg this year.  We’re getting all the right signs, and there will be a huge Sockeye run that you will want to take advantage of. It’s not too late to take advantage of an Alaskan Summer or start planning for a trip next June; drop us a message or give us a call, and we will be more than glad to help you plan your dream Alaskan fly fishing experience.
